Veteran Hollywood Actor Rip Torn passes away yesterday afternoon at his home in Lakeville, Connecticut. His wife Amy Wright and his daughters Katie Torn and Angelica Page were by his side.
Rip Torn was best known amongst the new generation for his role in Men In Black where he played the boss of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones’ characters. He also got nominated for six Emmy Awards and won one for his role as Artie the producer for The Larry Sanders Show, in 1996. It was after that win that he got noticed for high profile films like sci-fi comedy Men in Black and comedy-drama Wonder Boys.
Not many know but Rip Torn set his foot in the industry with Baby Doll in 1956 under the direction of Elia Kazan. He had a long inning as a film, TV and theatre actor. He also received an Oscar nomination for the best supporting actor for his performance in Cross Creek in 1983.
Despite his success in films he continued to work on TV in serials such as 30 Rock where he played the father of Alec Baldwin’s character.
His career ranges from the dark, aggressive roles to iconic comedy performances later in life, which was applauded by his viewers. He entertained his audience to seven decades and will be missed for his iconic voice-overs, towering characters, and lengthy career.
