Shamoon Abbasi has also filed an appeal for a review by the Censor Board with a new panel of analyst for his film ‘Durj’
Shamoon Abbasi’s ‘Durj’ has been in the news after it failed to get a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the Central Board of Film Censor just a few days before its big release.
The director and writer of the film Shamoon Abbasi is trying to get a clearance certificate for his much-awaited film addressing the issue of cannibalism.
According to Shamoon, ‘Durj’ was cleared by the censor boards of Punjab and Sindh but later, the decision was revoked after the central board intervened. The film was rejected because it revolves around cannibals and the members of CBFC think that this topic should be openly discussed as it portrays a negative image of Pakistan.
Shamoon Abbasi has filed an appeal to the chairman of the Central Board of Film Censors, Danial Gilani to review his film with a new panel of analysts.
Shamoon has also requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to help them get a clearance certificate from the Islamabad censor board. He believes that there is some personal vendetta behind the ban on ‘Durj’ and requested the premier to look into the matter.
We would like to address the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan to look into the matter and help us through the process of obtaining a clearance certificate from Islamabad censor board as Punjab and Sindh had cleared the film previously and issued certificates
In another tweet, Shamoon shared that global censor boards declared ‘Durj’ viewable for kids above 13 years. He is unable to understand why the censor boards in Pakistan have objection where films with so much violence are easily released.
Let’s see if the ban on ‘Durj’ will be lifted by the censor board as Shamoon Abbasi thinks there is no reason to stop it from screening.
Starring Shamoon Abbasi, Sherry Shah, Maira Khan, and Nouman Javed, ‘Durj’ will release in the US, UK, Canada, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar on October 11.
