The Atomic Blonde felt humiliated when she was approached to play Wonder Woman’s mother!
Famous for her role in The Italian Job, Charlize Theron has played different kinds of roles in her career including the super cool secret agent. However, she felt embarrassed when she was asked to join the DC Cinematic Universe Wonder Woman, but as one of the Superhero’s mother, not as the Superhero.
Yes, you read that right? Director Patty Jenkins who called the shots for Monster for which Charlize Theron won an Oscar offered her the role of Hippolyta, Wonder Woman’s mother. The character was later played by Connie Neilsen who is ten years older than the South African actress. At that time, the media was informed about her refusal due to the scheduling conflicts, but now it seems there was another reason behind it.
Charlize Theron recently revealed the real reason for her refusal in an interview. She said it felt like it was a slap to her face.
“This is a great example of how Hollywood like slaps you in the face when you start aging. And I was like, ‘I’m not familiar with it. What does Wonder Woman really do?’ And this person said, ‘No, it’s for Wonder Woman’s mom.’ It was the defining moment when I crossed over. And I wasn’t fully aware of it.”
We couldn’t agree more because, at 44, she is still one of the fittest actresses around. One shouldn’t forget that when the first Superman movie was made in 1978, Clint Eastwood was considered for the title role, even those he was nearing 40! It would have been amazing to see Charlize Theron as Wonder Woman, a role that eventually went to Gal Gadot.
